My sweet obsession

Are you curious about Cakedoodles? (answers to some of your burning questions)

Cakedoodles has opened the shoppe at 782 S. Brewster Road in Vineland. We have been busy baking and decorating for weeks now but many of you have no idea what we do or when we are open. That is totally my own fault. I have been juggling so many things between opening the store, working, family loss, and being sick. It has been a rough start for me and I intend to make it right. Here are some questions that have been asked or that I anticipate being asked, and their answers:

IMG_20140127_155548_0341. When will the shoppe be open?
It is open now – at least we are in there baking up a storm. You can call (609 364-5778) or email (ann@cakedoodles.com) your orders and I will be happy to work with you.

2. Why don’t we have regular shop hours?
We will – just not yet. In April, I am planning a “Grand Opening” – at that time, there will be set hours when you can visit and place your orders in person. It is recommended that you call to set up an appointment if you want me to cater an event or make a custom cake.

Cakedoodles is not a walk-in retail bakery. We do not prepare desserts and hope you will come along and purchase them while they are still fresh. We are a “bake-to-order” shoppe. All baking is done on the premises but not mass produced. This enables us to deliver home-baked quality and freshness for every order.

DSCN20803. How far in advance do you have to place an order?
Well, if it is for something small like a dozen cupcakes or an old-fashioned birthday cake, usually a day or two will do. Catered events, custom cakes, and more involved orders require 4 to 8 weeks depending on the needs of the customer. Of course, with all orders, the more notice the better because when the schedule is full, we cannot take on more orders.

4. Can you visit the shoppe to see and taste samples?
Certainly. Tastings are by appointment only. There is a charge of $25 for up to 5 guests. If you are ordering more than $250 in goodies, the cost of the tasting will be applied to the total order.
In April, we will begin to have regular “open” hours when you will be more than welcome to stop by to say “hi” and have a look around. Until then, we’re only a phone call or email away. 609 364-5778 / ann@cakedoodles.com

We are still working on our menu, but we will never be limited by it. If you have anything in mind, just ask. If we can make it—we will, and if not, we’ll let you know. We are known for our custom cakes that are sculpted or very ornate. Some may think that is all that we do, but it isn’t. We love making brownies, cupcakes, lemon squares, banana bread and all of your favorites.

Holiday menus will be posted on Facebook (Cakedoodles) and in front of the store several weeks before the holiday. These items are simply specials; of course we can always do more.

1381547_738827516134676_855008539_n6. Are we expensive?
That depends on your expectations. Cakedoodles is not Walmart, ShopRite, or BJs. Although these big chain stores make a tasty product at inexpensive prices, they are not of the same standard and quality of our products. All orders are made as they are ordered — not months ahead with preservatives and frozen to appear fresh. Any items frozen in our kitchen are only being held for finishing — a week at the most, and usually not at all. No preservatives are used to extend shelf life because we expect our goodies to be eaten rather quickly! Products are not made in large batches and quality ingredients like real butter, fresh eggs and milk are always used.

Custom cakes are made with much detail. The finishes, decorations, tools, etc. are all expensive to purchase. They are labor intensive and each order is given great attention. We provide a location that is enjoyable to visit and our customers are treated like family (translation: you are very important to us!). We don’t think were expensive—we believe your event deserves the very best.

DSC_04267. What else do you offer?
We’re glad you asked. When you visit our shoppe, you will notice our 450 square foot showroom. That’s a big showroom for cake! That’s because it also serves as a setting for intimate (up to 16 guests) dessert parties and other private events. Just ask, we can plan the perfect party for your special occasion.
