Liza’s Wedding Cake

Today I delivered a wedding cake for Liza & Brandon – a young couple that attends the same church as I do.  It was a fun project because Brandon’s mom made the figures for the top and asked me to make the cake to go with them.  The figures were really special because they were made to represent Liza & Brandon, even matching up the colors in their clothes with the wedding color scheme.

The cakes were carrot on the top and bottom, and white with raspberry filling for the center tier.  Originally, I was going to make the center tier blue and place hydrangea all over.  Thankfully, the couple was trusting me to come up with a design, so when I changed my mind, it didn’t matter to anyone.  I never realized just how fickle I was until I started decorating cakes!

My favorite trims were the daisies on the middle tier.  They are fun to make, and practically foolproof.  the bow and streamers on the other hand were made and re-made several times before I was satisfied.  Each cake I do gives me the opportunity to try something new and to hone my skills.  There are a few techniques that I am just waiting for the right cake to try.  For now though, I think I am going to concentrate on my Christmas baking.
