I was asked to make a cake for a little boy’s 4th birthday. Mom originally asked to have a cake that would go nicely with the fall-themed party she was throwing for this special occasion. Aiden had a different idea in mind. He wanted a green dinosaur! At first, I was a little nervous about the challenge of creating a dino and didn’t really know in what direction I wanted to go. I scanned the internet for ideas and after a while, I decided on my design. I loved the idea of a T-Rex popping out of the bushes – almost as if he was jumping out of the cake.
I didn’t want a really scary dino, but I also didn’t want Barney gracing the top of this cake. I think my guy came out somewhere in between. I thought having him chomping on a big “4” would be funny. Aiden’s name across the front was large to give the cake a “Jurassic” scale. The colors were chosen because they were cartoonish, like the dino (notice the party hat?). I kept teetering between more authentic ideas and the amusing appearance that I obviously settled upon. This one was just plain fun to do, and I am hoping that Aiden is happy with his green dinosaur.

Thanks Wendy. You’re too kind. I’d never make it on tv – I’m way too slow! Those people amaze me with how fast they can design and execute fabulous cakes. I’d need special medication to do that!
